Satellite sensor network

A software defined radio is to be programmed to function as a sensor network receiver on a CubeSat.

Reception of sensor data from satellite is an efficient method of collecting sensor data in remote areas. One relevant example is environmental sensors located in rural areas in Norway and in polar areas.

The student shall implement a small sensor network using Software Defined Radios (SDR) and demonstrate communication from a ground based sensor to a space based receiver using a realistic laboratory test set-up.

The assignment include programming of radio communication waveforms (generating and receiving modulated signals) using SDR hardware. It is beneficial to have a general interest, and some experience, in signal processing, radio communications and programming of Linux devices on embedded systems.
