Materials physics: Understanding the fundamental properties of grain boundaries on the nanoscale

Machine Learning: By applying the Gaussian Process and using Bayesian Optimization, we are able to reduce our CPU-cost on the supercomputer with up to 90 %. 

Density functional theory: Determining atomic structures on the nanoscale.

Electron holography: Measuring the electrostatic potential across the grain boundary. With inline electron holography, we use the TEM to detect variations in the potential with resolution around 1 nanometer.
