André Brodtkorb: Graphics Cards and Conservation Laws

Speaker: André Brodtkorb (SINTEF/UiO/OsloMet)

Title: Graphics Cards and Conservation Laws

Abstract: Graphics cards have become extremely popular over the last decade, and are now used for simulation on the most powerful supercomputers in the world. In this talk, we will give an overview of what the GPU is, its history, and how these can be used with ease today. Traditionally, the GPU was used from languages such as C++ and Fortran, but we show how we can use Python and still achieve the same performance. We will show examples with live coding of some simple numerical schemes using Python and Jupyter notebooks, and the source code will be made available on Github.
