Colloquium Talk - Ulrik Skre Fjordholm (UiO): Turbulence, the Navier-Stokes equations and the Clay Millennium Prize
The Clay Mathematics Institute awards $1 million to anyone who proves (or disproves) the existence of smooth solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations . In this lecture we will give a non-technical introduction to the Navier-Stokes equations and some related partial differential equations. I will give a brief overview of some of the partial results available, and try to explain why this is a difficult problem.
The talk should be accessible to math students in their third year and up.
NB! Coffee/Tea/Biscuits from 14.00.
