Mechano-Bio-Chemical Processes Across Scales

The research topic concerns the dynamics between chemical, biological, and mechanical processes in the Earth, from the nanoscale to the scale of continents. This includes studying the reactions occurring at solid-solid interfaces, the processes between mineral-fluid interfaces, structural and metamorphic transformation processes, history-dependent friction, and the biological processes important in the production of bio-concrete. The results can, e.g., be used to solve environmental problems such as the removal of pollutants in soils, the limitation of carbon emissions from concrete production, and the storage of carbon dioxide using mineral trapping.
