About the group

The Energy-Climate Group conducts research on the interplay between energy systems, climate variability, and climate change. Our mission is to support climate change mitigation by enabling robust energy system decarbonization under climate uncertainty.

To achieve this goal, we leverage a range of weather and climate data sources, including reanalysis products, observations, and climate models. We use these datasets to better understand fluctuations and long-term changes in renewable energy generation, electricity demand, and energy-system design. We also embrace collaborations with stakeholders and seek real-world relevance when designing and executing our research.

We are part of the Energy Section at the Department of Technology Systems and maintain close collaborations with the Energy Modelling Group. Members of the group are also involved in running the Next Generation in Energy-Climate Modelling workshops, co-organizing the International Conference on Energy Meteorology, and convening sessions at conferences such as the European Geosciences Union General Assembly and the Wind Energy Science Conference.

Academic programs and courses

We teach TEK5450 Introduction to the Energy-Climate Interface: How Does the Climate Impact Future Renewable Energy Systems?

Master’s theses and research visits

We offer master’s thesis projects focused on quantitative analysis. Current topics are published on the department website. We also welcome suggestions of projects of your own within the domain of energy-climate research.

We can host PhD students and sometimes master’s students for research visits if there is mutual benefit. Visitors generally need to secure their own funding.
