Abstract:
In this talk we define an analogue of the representation ring R(G) of a finite group G, namely the projective representation ring PR(G). We show that PR(G) admits R(G) as a subring, and that the lambda-ring structure on R(G) extends to a lambda-ring structure on PR(G). We will furthermore compute the associated Adams operations on PR(G) for some examples. This talk will serve as an introduction to both projective representation theory and lambda-rings. If time permits, we will discuss some open problems relating to K-theory and invariants of groups. This is based on joint work with Elias Klakken Angelsen.
