Abstract:
The advent of AI based proofs of important results questions our understanding of mathematics. Terrence Tao sees a role for mathematicians in a canonicalization of results. I want to present a new approach (joint with Jacob Stix) towards the computation of the homotopy equivalences of simply connected 4-manifolds, a theme which has a long tradition with numerous errors. I want to discuss this development and what canonicalization in this example could mean.
