Career counseling

The faculty is offering: individual career counseling upon request.

What's in it for me?

Early career planning helps you carry out strategic career choices. Talking with a career counselor may help you

  • explore how to map and communicate your competence
  • understand your values and motivation factors
  • explore your career opportunities (that align with your values and motivation)
  • learn methods for carrying out strategic career choices

Success Story

"Today I received a job offer from a company in XX that I am willing to accept. […]

Our discussion was of great help in this. Following your advice, I approached this company from multiple angles, both submitting an application and finding a direct contact to the R&D manager through a fellow alumnus of the university where I had my master studies. This has paid off, and just one day later I was invited for an interview, which then led to this offer in a fairly short time. So I am really grateful for your help."

MN PhD survey

A 2018 survey among MN PhD alumni (199 respondents) shows that 59% landed their first job within R&D. Of all respondents,

  • 57% work in the public sector
  • 41% work in the private sector
  • 3% work in interest organisations

Research as a generic skills

Your doctoral education provides you with training in generic skills such as analytical and critical thinking, communication and more. The 2018 survey showed that candidates wished for better training in
