Student and teacher licences

How an individual student or teacher registers with Autodesk for a personal licence. For licences held by the institution rather than by a person, see the school licences guide instead.

Autodesk student and teacher licences are personal licences that students and teachers collect from Autodesk themselves. You get your own account on the Autodesk Education Community, and on Autodesk Account, where the licences are managed.

This kind of account is recommended for schools using Autodesk's cloud products, because those require collaborating with other people, which is only possible with personal licences. Autodesk also recommends it for any school where pupils bring their own equipment, and for teachers, who then get access to the teaching material on the Education Community.

To use student and teacher licences you have to go through a registration procedure. Apologies for the level of detail — the aim is to show every step you have to go through.

  1. Go to the Autodesk Education Community at www.autodesk.com/education.
  2. Choose Get Products.
  3. Choose Get Started.
  4. Choose Create Account.
  5. Fill in the form. Select Student if you are a pupil or student, and Educator if you are a teacher. Select your country and the type of institution you belong to. Get the institution type right — it determines which schools you are shown later (see step 11).
  6. On the next page you are asked for your name and email address, and you choose your password.
  7. After clicking Create Account you get a confirmation and a message saying an email has been sent to you.
  8. Open that email and click the link in it.
  9. Your email address is confirmed. Click Done.
  10. You are taken to a page where you select the school you belong to.
  11. Start typing in the Name of educational institution field and the system will try to find your school. If it is not there, use the Can't find your school? option — you can then submit your school's details. Note that you only see schools in the category you chose in step 5. If you have to submit the school, you cannot continue until it has been added.
  12. Once you have completed the form and clicked Next, your account has been created.
  13. Clicking Continue takes you to Autodesk's American site at www.autodesk.com. That is not where you want to be — go back to the Education Community.
  14. Choose Get Products again. This time the system sees that you are signed in and asks you to confirm who you are.
  15. Click Get Started.
  16. A form appears showing what you have already entered. Update it if needed.
  17. Click Verify to continue.
  18. You now get a page where you supply evidence that you really are a student or teacher at the school. Suggestions for suitable documents are listed on the right. Two forms are attached that you can use if you do not have any of the documents they ask for — one for students and one for teachers. You do not need to sign them. The documents are read and interpreted automatically, so using one of the attached forms is strongly recommended.
  19. Click Submit to send it in.
  20. What you submit is then verified, and before long you will be told that everything is in order.
  21. You can finally download the software. This also happens on the Education Community, so go to www.autodesk.com/education.
  22. Click Individual to see the products available to you.

Good luck. If you have questions you are welcome to contact Ole Petter Vik.
