Let's get to know her a little bit better, by asking her a few relevant questions. Like, who are you? What is your backgrund and what kind of research will you be doing for CENSSS?
About Me:
I am a 25-year-old girl who commutes weekly to Norway from Sweden. I have a cat named Doris and a partner named Viktor in Sweden. I come from a small town in southern Sweden where students drove tractors to school. I didn't drive a tractor myself, but I did drive a moped to school.
Background:
I studied Civil Engineering, Technical Physics (Degree of Master of Science in Engineering in Engineering Physics in English) in Lund. I specialized in nuclear physics and accelerators and conducted my thesis work at ESS (European Spallation Source) in Lund, where I participated in building a neutron detector. From assembling, welding, and soldering the parts of the detector to testing it. After graduation, I have worked for 2 years as a development engineer in 5G.
What I Will Be Doing Now:
I am a PhD candidate at CENSSS who will work on one of the instruments at CENSSAT. I will be involved in developing a particle detector that will be capable of detecting charged particles, gamma, and neutrons. I will simulate the detector in GEANT4 to determine the detector's design. I will also participate in building and testing the detector. The aim is to utilize the detector for:
• An alert system for the rest of the instruments at CENSSAT
• Determining the lifetime of neutrons using thermal neutrons
• Measuring Gamma Ray bursts. The detector is based on the CLUNGAS detector, which is designed for a lunar mission to measure element composition and water quantities on the moon through gamma and neutron spectroscopy (map elemental composition and water abundance through gamma-ray and neutron spectroscopy).
My supervisors at UiO are: Anja Kohfeldt, Ramsey Al Jebali and Luis Filipe Alves Teodoro.
Rebecka is eager to start her work for CENSSS.
