"How effective quality assurance during EPC phase can reduce the O&M costs and enhance the reliability and lifespan of PV power plants".
Conferral summary
Main research findings
The installation of solar parks has grown rapidly in recent years. To ensure they perform as expected, it’s crucial to detect issues early. One recommended approach is using drones equipped with thermal cameras to quickly scan for faulty modules. This thesis investigates how to optimize drone flight paths to speed up inspections, including the use of drone swarms to further reduce inspection time. Once the park is efficiently imaged, we explore several methods to automatically detect module faults in the thermal imagery. Finally, we propose a framework for deciding whether replacing the detected module anomalies is economically beneficial. The overarching aim is to help make solar energy even more cost-effective, so we can keep driving the green energy transition forward.
