Study Plan for ITS Master's Students

By 1 December in your first semester of the master's programme, you must submit your study plan. The study plan can be regarded as a master's agreement between the student, supervisor, and the department, and must be approved by the department before it is binding.

About the Study Plan

All master's students must submit a study plan.

The application should include a plan for theoretical courses and a progress plan for your master's studies. If you are writing a long thesis (60 ECTS credits), you must attach a project description. If you are collaborating with a company or another student, this must be included in the project description.

Make sure to choose courses and set up a progress plan in collaboration with your supervisor(s). You must also involve your supervisor(s) when drafting the project description.

Your study plan must be signed/approved by all your supervisors. We will not start processing your application before at least one internal supervisor or contact person has approved it.

Where to Submit the Study Plan

  • Fill out the following web form: Application for Study Plan Agreement. See the description on the first page of the web form on how to proceed.

  • Your application must be both submitted and approved by your supervisors by 1 December.

Additional Applications

Inclusion of Previous Master's Level Courses

If you have taken master's level courses previously and want them to be included in your master's degree, you must list them in the study plan. If they are not from UiO, you must include an application for the inclusion of previous credits at the end of the application.

Application for Part-Time Studies (Reduced Progression)

The master's programme consists of a total of 120 ECTS credits, including the master's thesis. If you study full-time, you take 30 ECTS credits per semester. If you wish to take fewer ECTS credits per semester, you must specify this in the study plan.

You can request down to 50 percent part-time. If you need less than 50 percent part-time for special reasons, you must attach valid documentation.

Processing and Feedback

We begin processing the study plans as they are submitted. Note that the study plan must be approved/signed by at least one internal supervisor for us to start processing it.

You will receive an email if your plan is approved, if it is not approved and you need to change your plan, or if we need more information from you. There are many applications to go through, so it may take a few weeks before you receive a response.

How to Apply for Changes to the Study Plan

During your studies, you may want to change the plan for the theoretical curriculum (courses), your progress plan, or postpone your submission. These changes must be approved by the institute. You are responsible for applying for the changes. Remember that your supervisor must approve your application.

You can use the following web form to apply for changes to your study plan.

If you need an extension, either you or your supervisor must apply for this at studieinfo@its.uio.no by the applicable deadlines.

The deadline to apply for changes to your study plan is three months before the deadline for submitting your thesis.
