Operational profiles and model verification
- Battery lifetime testing
- Prepare different types of duty cycles (i.e. frequency regulation, peak shaving, drive cycles for trains/boats/cars)
- Experimentally test these duty cycles on state-of-the art batteries in IFE’s laboratories
- Modelling
- Verify and further improve the parameterization of a semi-empirical battery lifetime model
- How time and resource efficient can we make the parametrization? How much can we reduce the number of cells and time used for data collection to still capture SEI formation, DOD, SOC, Crate, Temp.
- How should we design test program for a new cell if we know the real-life duty cycle for the particular cell?
Calendar ageing
- Calendar ageing is an important factor for accurately estimating battery lifetime and SoH of a battery
- Collection of calendar ageing data is extremely time consuming and often not feasible
- In this work you will look into methodologies for faster estimation of calendar ageing parameters for different types of battery cells and chemistries to be used in a semi-empirical degradation model
- Build methodology for accelerated calendar aging experiments. Use existing standards from the EV sector. Develop model that accounts for pure calendar aging, and find ways to merge this “stress factor” with other cycling stress factors. Plan for validation experiments where we can determine the accuracy of combining such models.
