Abstract: I will define rational, stably rational and unirational varieties and discuss properties and examples and non-examples of these classes of varieties. These include the equivalence of these three notions for curves (Luroth) and surfaces in characteristic 0 (Castelnuovo) and the different examples of Clemens-Griffiths, Iskovskikh-Manin and Artin-Mumford showing that for 3-folds these notions are not equivalent.\(\overline{\mathbb F}_p\)
