The stack guard vulnerability is potentially a local privilege escalation attack, which on our hosts would compromise not only the system itself, but also all storage at the department. As such, it was deemed necessary to immediately update and reboot all user-available hosts at the department. We apologise for the inconvenience this might have caused.
Reboot of linux hosts at the department
Due to a vulnerability in the stack guard implementation for Linux, all Linux hosts required a reboot to update both the kernel and glibc packages on the systems in question.
