IT services at the Department

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 Oct. 10, 2014

    Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 is the version of Linux offered at the department. Red Hat Enterprise Linux is the only Linux platform supported by UiO and it provides UiO and the department of mathematics a unified platform between computing nodes, the Abel Cluster, servers, and desktop clients.

    After the transition to IP telephony we have had a few situations where the machines behind the phones have been slow. Often the problem is the phone itself and resetting the phone usually helps. At other times, using webmail towards causes problems.

    Through Microsoft's Imagine programme, students and employees at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences can acquire licensed copies of Microsoft software. The program includes Windows 8 and Windows 7 operating systems, designer and development tools such as Visual Studio and Visio, productivity applications such as OneNote, and much more.

    The module "python-ml" is a unified python module for machine learning at the department of mathematics, superseding the specific modules for tensorflow, pytorch, and other libraries.

    A central configuration error led to issues logging in to Linux machines between 18:03 and 18:31 today.

  • Infrastructure work Sep. 10, 2018

    On Wednesday the 13th of September 2018, between 17 and 20, there will be maintenance on the network infrastructure at UiO. This may cause temporary connectivity issues for services across campus.

  • INLA under R complains about GLIBC. July 26, 2018

    Running INLA under R can give the error "/lib64/ version `GLIBC_2.23' not found" or similar. A workaround is to issue INLA:::inla.dynload.workaround() before running code using INLA.
