Pavel’s research focuses on paleomagnetism, plate tectonics, and geodynamics, utilizing magnetic records from rocks to reconstruct past plate motions and the evolution of Earth’s magnetic field. His work at PHAB will include paleomagnetic analyses of Paleoproterozoic sedimentary rocks recently recovered in drill cores from the Franceville Basin in Gabon and the development of a global paleogeographic model for the early Proterozoic (~2.5-2.0 Ga). This model will provide a paleogeographic framework for deciphering the complex interplay between the tectonic, climatic, depositional, geochemical, and geobiological changes in the Earth system that led to the initial rise of atmospheric oxygen at the dawn of the Proterozoic.
Pavel Doubrovine
Pavel Doubrovine, who has previously been a researcher both at CEED and PHAB, returned to PHAB in May 2026. Over the next three years, he will work as a researcher in the GOE-PHAB project (The Great Oxygenation Event and Planetary Habitability), lead by co-director Trond Helge Torsvik.
