The WholeSun mini-workshop

The week 13-17 January, 2020 the Rosseland Centre for Solar Physics hosts the first mini-workshop linked to the WholeSun project.

The WholeSun project is an ERC synergy grant project with four principal investigator nodes: CEA Saclay outside Paris (PI: Sacha Brun), Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research, Göttingen (PI: Laurent Gizon), University of St.Andrews (PI: Vasilis Archontis), University of Oslo (PI: Mats Carlsson). In addition, IAC, Tenerife (Fernando Moreno Insertis) is a collaborative partner.

The goal is to combine expertise from the interior of the Sun with expertise on the atmosphere and end up with a comprehensive view of the WholeSun. This is necessary in order to understand phenomena ranging from the solar cycle, emergence of magnetic field at all scales and the heating of the outer solar atmosphere.

In week 3, 2020 about 15 researchers from the five sites get together at RoCS for a mini-workshop addressing some of these topics. A special focus is on possible avenues towards creating a new code for modelling the WholeSun.
