12/08/2026 update: Unfortunately, the event is cancelled due to unfavourable weather conditions, as the sky will be completely covered in clouds and it will not be possible to observe the Sun.
Â
On August 12th, 2026, the Moon will obscure our vision of the Sun for a few moments, allowing us to view a solar eclipse.
In Oslo, this will manifest as a partial solar eclipse, with the Moon starting its path in front of the Sun at 19:02 and leaving it at 20:49, with the Sun being maximally covered at 19:57.
The Sun will be quite low at this time and will be easily obstructed by buildings and trees. As such, to study this rare event, we will be on the lawn behind the Physics Building, where we should have a clear view of the Sun. We will distribute solar eclipse glasses that you can use to look at the Sun, as well as have telescopes ready to observe, and all are welcome to join us!
It is important to note that visibility is highly dependent on the weather, and it is possible that the event might have to be cancelled due to bad conditions.
