Line Nybakk Akerholt, subject librarian for ITA at the University Library - section for Open Research and Special Collections, will present the work on digitizing and metadata registration of the scientific letter collection from Professor Christopher Hansteen (1784—1873), the founder of astronomy and our Observatory in Oslo. The collection was from the beginning considered to be of great value as it presents the network connections and scientific range of Professor Hansteen.

The metadata registration has been incremental over three centuries, but it has been impossible to find a «one size fits all» system. But now, with the collection available and an enormous speed in the development of new tools with machine learning - how can we further improve and disseminate this collection? Are there any limits?
