Reconstructing the cosmic microwave background polarization in the quest for B-modes

The B-mode polarization of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) is expected to convey invaluable information on both the primordial and the late universe. The reconstruction of the map is one of the main steps down any CMB data analysis pipeline, as it allows to compress by many orders of magnitude the data volume, while striving for preserving all the information. The map-making is made difficult by the fact that typically the raw data are filtered in order to remove unwanted signals. I will discuss the consequences that this operation and different map-making techniques have on the properties of the reconstructed map and on the BB-angular power spectrum estimated from it. The viewpoint will be the data analysis of the POLARBEAR experiment, of which I will overview the results, the status and the prospects.
