Abstract: Historically, bacterial communities have received most of the attention, and many tools for metagenomic data analysis are therefore centered on bacterial genomes. However, metagenomic datasets contain a wealth of information about other genetic elements and organisms. In this talk, I will discuss strategies, tools, and challenges involved in microbiome analysis beyond bacteria, highlighting examples from CRISPR-Cas systems and plasmids.
