Tasks for Fire safety Floor contacts

At MN, we want floor contacts to take an active role. This webpage provides further information about what is expected of you as a floor contact at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

Appointment

Floor contacts are appointed by their manager.

Training

Floor contacts should have completed Fire safety course for floor contacts within three months after appointment, as well as watching Instruksjonsvideo for etasjekontakter (only in Norwegian)

Tasks

Fire safety inspection (Brannvernrunde)

Floor contacts must carry out fire safety inspections in their areas at the beginning of each semester. The following must be checked:

  1. Are escape routes free of obstructions and easily combustible materials?
  2. Can doors to escape routes be opened easily from the inside without using a key?
  3. Do self-closing fire doors function as intended, i.e., are they kept closed, does the hold-open magnet release when the test button is used, and do the doors close tightly against the frame (important to limit smoke spread)?
  4. Are markings/signs for escape routes and firefighting equipment in place and in good condition? Note that exit signs must be illuminated at all times.
  5. Is firefighting equipment in place, easily accessible and free of visible damage? This applies to fire hoses, portable extinguishers and any fire blankets.
  6. Are manual fire alarms and emergency door releases easily accessible and clearly visible?
  7. Are notices showing escape routes and fire instructions visible in the room?

The fire safety inspection must be documented in the “Fire safety inspection for floor representatives” (Brannvernrunde for etasjekontakter).

All deviations must be reported to EA via Si fra by the floor representatives.
