First Aid

What should you do in a life-threatening emergency or a less serious incident?

In a life-threatening emergency

If you are notified of, experience yourself, or witness a life-threatening emergency involving danger to life on UiO premises, call the following numbers in this order:

  • Police: 112, Ambulance: 113, Fire and Rescue Service: 110
  • UiO Security and Alarm Centre (staffed 24 hours a day): +47 22 85 66 66
  • Dean of the MN-Faculty and the Head of Department

Less serious incidents

  • In the event of an incident in a laboratory, contact the laboratory manager.
  • Contact the Head of Administration, the safety representative, or follow your unit’s agreed call-out list.

Defibrillator

You can find the location of the nearest automated external defibrillator (AED) on the interactive map provided by the national AED Register (Norwegian).

UiO’s AED procedure (Norwegian) contains information on the maintenance of defibrillators.

First-aid equipment

Make sure you know where your nearest first-aid and fire-fighting equipment is located, and how to use it in an emergency.

First-aid training

Would you know what to do if a student became unwell during a lecture you were giving? What if a colleague suddenly had difficulty breathing?

UiO has framework contracts for the provision of first-aid courses (Norwegian). Three types of course are available to book:

  • Basic first aid
  • First aid for laboratories
  • First aid in the field

Training and information

The university and higher education sector have joined forces to provide a shared solution for first-aid training and information. "Sikresiden" is available both as an app and a website.

Sikresiden.no provides preventative training and practical advice on what to do when an emergency strikes.
