Increased focus on research transparency and reproducibility puts new demands on researchers: prepare data for sharing and archiving, preregister research studies, make analysis reusable, share a detailed documentation of your work. This is often not rewarded in hiring and promotion decisions. Instead, researchers are typically evaluated based on the journal publications metrics and not on their contributions to open, rigorous and verifiable research. In recent years, however, new ways of evaluating research have been proposed, including in Norway and at UiO. In this talk, we will introduce the changes to the research assessment system, examples for how they are or could be applied, and give an overview of how it can impact researchers’ careers.
Key takeaways
- Overview of different criteria for evaluating researchers
- Introduction to recent changes in the research assessment system
- Reflection on how the new assessment criteria can impact researchers’ careers
Practical information
- Event duration: 45 minutes
- Number of participants: 60
- Target group: Primarily PhD candidates, Postdoctoral Fellows, and Early Career Researchers across UiO. Other interested participants are welcome if there are free seats.
