was created by Sverre Hvammen Johansen as an MSc project at the Department of Informatics at the University of Oslo in 1987; the project was supervised by professor Stein Krogdahl. Afterwards, it was made into a GNU project, but it has not been maintained since 2005.
The Cim compiler is written in C. It produces C code which is then compiled into executable code by a standard C compiler like gcc. It runs on Linux systems. Attempts have been made to adapt it to MacOS and Windows but with no success as yet.
Installation
The compiler kit is cim-3.37.zip.
- Create a folder to be used during the installation. (It can be deleted afterwards.)
- cd to that directory.
- Download cim-3.37.zip using the link above.
- Run
CFLAGS=-O2 LDFLAGS=-s ./configure --prefix=xxx make make install
where xxx is the folder in which you want to keep the cim compiler and its companion files; use a file name with a full path (i.e., starting with a "/" or a "~").
Note! We will get a lot of warnings, but you can ignore them.
Use
To compile a Simula program, use
xxx/bin/cim MyProgram.sim
where xxx the Cim folder (see above).
You can then run the program using
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=xxx/lib MyProgram
