Mats Horsdal

Academic interests

My main interest is topological phases in condensed matter systems, and more specifically topological superconductors. It is expected that these systems can realise excitations or "particles" that are neither bosons nor fermions. These so called anyons might be utilised in a quantum computer.

Previously I have also worked on quantum phenomena in low dimensional systems, with focus on Luttinger liquids in one dimension. A Luttinger liquid, which can be realised on the edge of a quantum Hall system, can give rise rise to excitations with a charge that is a fraction of the elementary charge.
