The Department of Physics is Norway's most comprehensive physics department. The research conducted here ranges from elementary particle physics to material science and energy research, from space science to medical physics.
All education at the Department is research-based and devided in three bachelor's programmes and several master's and Ph.D. programmes. Each year, around 50 master's students and 15-30 Ph.D. candidates obtain their degree from the Department.
Communicating our research, it being basic or application driven, is also an important task.
The Department's activity is spread out in four buildings, of which the Physics building (see photo) is the largest. The number of employees, both scientific, technical and administrative staff, totals approximately 180.
