Abstract

At the start of the pandemic a new centre for Norwegian CERN-related research (NorCC) was formed, hosted by the University of Oslo. Today more than 200 researchers are working together at six institutes in Noway (UiO, UiB, HVL, NTNU, UiA, USN) and at CERN in Geneva.

The research spans a large range of areas from investigating the origins of the Universe, searching for Dark Matter, Higgs boson investigations to accelerator research, semiconductor development, machine learning, novel cooling systems and research on entrepreneurship, to mention a few.

This talk present the new centre, a selection of research highlights and opportunities for students and young researchers at CERN and in Norway.

Biography

Heidi Sandaker is Head of the Norwegian centre for CERN-related research (NorCC) and professor in the group of High Energy Physics at the Department of Physics at the University of Oslo.

Her main interests are searches for Dark Matter with ATLAS at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN and the Cherenkov Telescope Array under construction (Chile / La Palma), as well as building novel detectors (e.g. 3D silicon sensors, CMOS) for future high energy experiments, including building anti-matter detectors for AEGIS at the Anti-proton decelerator at CERN.

A light meal will be served from 12.00. Talk starts at approximately 12.20.
