Colloquium: Extraterrestrial Oceans

By Prof. Stephanie C. Werner, Center for Earth Evolution and Dynamics (CEED), UiO

This presentation will explore the solar system for extraterrestrial oceans. It will provide an overview on the number of icy moons with known and potential subsurface oceans and describe their characteristics, surface expressions and the composition of the liquid involved, and the methods of how they were discovered.

We continue the journey with those objects, which have oceans or lakes on their surface. Future space missions will explore some of the icy moons with subsurface oceans to test the hypothesis of habitable icy worlds in the solar system.
