Trial lecture: Toma Susi
Trial lecture for the announced position as Associate professor in structure physics/TEM.
We want the candidate to give a 45 min lecture on «Electrical capacitors».
Student’s background: The lecture is intended to be given for 80-100 bachelor physics students in their third semester taking the course “FYS1120 Electromagnetism”. (Similar to standard courses in electromagnetism worldwide.) The students are supposed to have sufficient mathematical background (details can be given on request), and they have passed a course in classical mechanics. The concepts “Electrical capacitor” and “capacitance” presented in your lecture are completely new for the students. Our students are familiar with Python and Matlab programming and numerical methods in earlier courses».
From the learning outcomes for FYS1120 we can mention:
• you have extensive knowledge of electric and magnetic fields, sources of the fields, Maxwell’s equations in both integral and differential form, and you can calculate such fields using analytical and numerical methods.
• you can account for electrical and magnetic forces, as well as energy stored in electric and magnetic fields.
