What can Past-Generation Reactors teach us about the Next-Generation Reactors?

Project Motivation

Legacy reactors at Kjeller hold decades of operational and radiological data. By accurate modeling and simulations of these, we can contribute to a safe decommissioning process, and use the results to investigate needs for newer-generation reactors

Project Outcome

Development of a high-accuracy model of the historical JEEP II reactor using OpenMC and SCALE. The developed framework will be validated against physical samples of JEEP II and thereafter applied to lifecycle, decommissioning, and future microreactor design studies.
