In medical research, the behavior of lab-mice is of great importance. In this project, you will build a mouse tracker capable of monitoring the position, activity and breathing frequency of mice using radar modules.
Since radars are highly sensitive to movement and can penetrate non-metalic objects such as plastic and things that does not contain water, they can track position in environments that are not possible with other sensors. By utilizing filtering techniques, is also possible to extract breathing patterns, which is challenging to acquire non-invasively with other types of sensors. High quality information of and can be very useful in medical experiments.
In this project you will build a tracking system based on available short range radar sensors. (such as Acconeer 60 GHz or Novelda 8.5 GHz UWB). You will learn about radar technology, basic electromagnetic wave propagation and data collection using standard protocols. The central unit will need some programming to collect, store and process the radar data.
