Current news: New acquisition of E-learning book in Geochemistry at the Science Library

The Science Library at the University of Oslo (UiO) has now made a significant new acquisition in 2025 of the textbook "Treatise on Geochemistry" as an e-book series. This ensures that staff and students at the Dept. of Geosciences and others have access to an 8-volume digital edition of an important textbook in geosciences and geochemistry.

The Science Library at the University of Oslo has now made a significant acquisition of full access to "Treatise on Geochemistry," an e-book series in Earth sciences and geochemistry. This book series is now available in 2025 in its third edition from the publisher Elsevier. The e-book series serves as a comprehensive reference work and consists of a total of eight volumes.

The e-book series is relevant to several Earth science disciplines and is intended for anyone wishing to delve into topics related to the Earth's interior, the lithosphere, freshwater, groundwater, the atmosphere, the oceans, and even planets beyond our own.

An Important Reference Work and Learning Resource

– This book series is a reference work that covers a wide range of geochemistry, from cosmochemistry and the chemistry of magmatic systems to environmental geochemistry, biogeochemistry, seawater chemistry, and atmospheric chemistry.

It provides an updated and comprehensive overview of modern (isotope) geochemical analytical methods, as well as clear recommendations for standard sampling and preparation methods, says Lars Eivind Augland, Associate Professor at the Department of Geosciences, and researcher in isotope geology, geochronology, and geochemistry.

The e-book series is available as full text from Elsevier ScienceDirect Books Complete. Everything in the resource is searchable, and chapters in the series are available online and as PDFs, which can be easily printed.

"Treatise on Geochemistry" can thus be an important resource for both teaching and research at the Department of Geosciences now and in the future.

–  In my opinion, this is absolutely essential literature for any geochemical research environment, and several of the chapters will be recommended reading for students in various master's courses at the Department of Geosciences, according to Augland.

Access in Oria via the University Library

To gain access to "Treatise on Geochemistry," it is important to be logged into Oria through the University Library (UB). Feel free to take a look at the 8 volumes of the book series by logging in via UB, and check out the topics covered in the textbook.
