From May, there will be a change of leadership at the Department of Geosciences. After four successful years as head of the department, we thank Bernd Etzelmüller for his dedication and commitment.
Etzelmüller has been the head of the department since February 2021, after serving as deputy head from 2019. He will now return to his position as a professor of physical geography, but will also continue as deputy head of the department until the end of the year.
The new head of the department, Joseph Henry Lacasce, is a professor of oceanography at the Department of Geosciences. Lacasce has extensive experience in the geosciences, both at UiO and elsewhere. He has served as the leader of the Section for Meteorology and Oceanography at various times and has also been a member of the department board. Lacasce has had a long career at the Department of geosciences and University of Oslo since 2007.
Ensuring good continuity for future work
The upcoming year will present new challenges and opportunities in research, education, and various initiatives at the department. We are pleased that Lacasce will lead the department and that Bernd Etzelmüller has agreed to continue as deputy head until 2025. This ensures good continuity in the leadership and the work being carried out at the department.
Both Etzelmüller and Lacasce were presented with flowers during the first leadership meeting at the department on May 4th, as a small gesture from colleagues.
