Newly elected member
Trude Storelvmo was elected as a new member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, as a Norwegian member of the Mathematical-Natural Sciences Division in March 2025. The new members were celebrated at the Academy's annual meeting on May 5.
The Physics of Clouds and Climate
Trude Storelvmo is a professor of meteorology at the Department of Geosciences, Section for Meteorology and Oceanography (MetOs). Her research interests focus on the Earth's atmosphere, with particular emphasis on the effects of aerosol particles and clouds on the climate system.
Within her research interests, she has, in addition to other projects, two major EU-funded projects: the ERC Start-Up Grant 'Mixed-phase clouds and climate (MC2)' and the ERC Consolidator 'Grant STEP-CHANGE: STate-dEPendent Cloud feedbacks: enHANcing understanding and assessing Global Effects'.
Trude Storelvmo came to University of Oslo in 2018 from a position as Associate Professor at Yale University. Prior to that, she was a postdoc at ETH Zurich. She obtained her PhD from the University of Oslo and the Department of Geosciences in 2006, with Jón Egill Kristjánsson as her supervisor.
In 2020, Trude Storelvmo was awarded the University of Oslo's prize for younger researchers, an honor given to researchers who have excelled in outstanding research. Read more about this in this article in Uniforum (in Norwegian).
