Trond H. Torsvik has been awarded the 2015 Leopold von Buch medal

Professor Trond Torsvik has been awarded the 2015 Leopold von Buch medal in “recognition and appreciation of outstanding professional  contributions to understanding geodynamics”.

Professor Trond HelgeTorsvik, Department of Geosciences and Centre for Earth Evolution and Dynamics (CEED) has been awarded the 2015 Leopold von Buch medal for his “recognition and appreciation of outstanding professional  contributions to understanding geodynamics”.  He is the second Norwegian who have got this medal, the other is Olaf Holtedahl (UiO) in 1954.

The prize is awarded by the Council of the German Geological Society (www.g-v.de/), and are given to foreign scholars for outstanding achievements in the geosciences. The award ceremony will be at the CGG Annual Convention in Berlin - GeoBerlin 2015, from 4 to 7 October 2015.
 

About Christian Leopold von Buch

Christian Leopold von Buch (April 26, 1774 – March 4, 1853) was a German geologist and paleontologist, one of the most important contributors to geology in the first half of the nineteenth century. His scientific interest was devoted to geological topics: volcanism, fossils, stratigraphy and more. von Buchs most remembered accomplishment is the scientific definition of the Jurassic system (Wikipedia).
