Abstracts
The COHIBA and HAVANA projects (Ariel Almendral Vazquez)
In this presentation we introduce two advanced geomodelling tools developed at Norsk Regnesentral for structural modelling of the subsurface. First, the COHIBA software for stochastic surface modelling and depth conversion, which integrates well data, velocity models, and layer dependencies to quantify and reduce subsurface uncertainty. Second, we present the HAVANA framework for fault modelling and fluid-flow analysis, capable of representing fault geometry, displacement fields, and uncertainty envelopes on simulation grids. Together, these tools support the construction of realistic subsurface models that consistently account for uncertainties in both data and geological interpretation.
The GEOPARD project (Ingrid Aarnes, Jacob Skauvold)
The GEOPARD project is about bringing more geological realism into the statistical framework used to generate 3D models of geology. The goal is to develop a modern facies model that meets the industry demands on honoring both observations and geological concepts. GEOPARD provides reservoir geologists with a tool tailored specifically to their terminology and needs in the reservoir modelling workflow. This will make the models easier to use and open up for direct use of geological outcrop data that is often overlooked.
About Hammer Talks
For the past few years, Hammer Talks have been a regular geology lunch seminar arranged by the Basins section. They provide a meeting platform for all geology-interested staff at the Department of Geosciences. The idea is to have regular informal interaction across the different sections/groups that spark scientific discussion and even collaboration.
