GEOHYD Lunch Seminar: Flood forecasting and the extreme weather "Hans"

Welcome to the GEOHYD Lunch Seminar Monday 10th of November @ 12:15 in Aud. 1, Geology building, or via video link using Zoom. The seminar is held by Trine Jahr Hegdahl (NVE).

Seminar by Trine Jahr Hegdahl (The Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate, NVE):

Flood forecasting and the extreme weather "Hans"

Abstract: The Norwegian water resources and energy directorate (NVE) is responsible for the national flood and landslides warnings in Norway. In august the extreme event "Hans" caused extensive flooding and landslides causing large damage to houses and infrastructure, more than 2000 persons were evacuated. The event challenged NVE, the affected municipalities and operational response units for large parts of eastern Norway. In this presentation I will present the extreme event Hans, and how this event was handled by the forecasting team and NVE as an organization. In addition, I will give a short introduction to an ongoing NVE project where we look into how we can change our flood forecasting service and flood warnings to reflect the impact and risk of flooding opposed to flood magnitude that is used today.

The talk is in Aud 1 in the Geology Building. It is also possible to follow at Zoom.

Video link to the lecture will be sent to the mailing lists alle@geo and geohyd-info@geo. If you want to subscribe to the geohyd-info@geo list send an email to Anita.
