Seminar by Kristoffer Aalstad (Dept of Geosciences, University of Oslo):
Solving GeoHyd inverse problems using data assimilation
Abstract: 'Reverse engineering' observations to infer the hidden states that may have generated them falls under the umbrella of inverse problems. The abundance of these problems at GeoHyd and beyond has fueled the development of geophysical data assimilation schemes that fuse uncertain information from models and observations. In this talk, I will introduce data assimilation as an approach to solving inverse problems while highlighting connections with probabilistic machine learning. I will also provide an overview of some of the ongoing work we are doing to solve such problems at GeoHyd as well as future plans in new projects.
The talk is in Aud 1 in the Geology Building. It is also possible to follow at Zoom.
Video link to the lecture will be sent to the mailing lists alle@geo and geohyd-info@geo. If you want to subscribe to the geohyd-info@geo list send an email to Anita.
