GEOHYD Lunch Seminar: Ongoing Efforts in the Earth Sciences at Expert Analytics

Welcome to the GEOHYD Lunch Seminar Friday 27th of October @ 12:15 in Aud. 1, Geology building, or via video link using Zoom. The seminar is held by John Aiken, Dept of Geosciences & Njord, UiO.

Seminar by John Aiken (Dept of Geosciences & Njord, University of Oslo):

Ongoing Efforts in the Earth Sciences at Expert Analytics

Abstract: Earth is a complex, interrelated system extending from glaciers to human social interactions. Understanding the governing processes requires physical and statistical models that can understand complex, non-linear, spatio-temporal observations. Modelling large-scale spatio-temporal data presents challenges such as high computational demands, complex correlation structures, and the separation of mixed sources. These governing processes produce a wide variety of data sets from physical measurements (e.g., soil conductivity, air temperature) to expert reports (e.g., hand written drilling logs). This talk presents the ongoing efforts at Expert Analytics to solve these problems using bayesian statistics and artificial intelligence. These tools are applied to a wide variety of problems including lake dynamics, COVID-19 transmission, global glacier modeling, and fluid rock interactions.

About Expert Analytics: We are a group of highly skilled software consultants with a solid background in the natural sciences. Our technology experts thrive on complex challenges and use their scientific methodology to model and implement tailored solutions for your scientific or industrial challenges.

The talk is in Aud 1 in the Geology Building. It is also possible to follow at Zoom.

Video link to the lecture will be sent to the mailing lists alle@geo and geohyd-info@geo. If you want to subscribe to the geohyd-info@geo list send an email to Anita.
