Title: Providing the scientific basis to adapt to climate change impacts: Experiences from an ongoing Peruvian-Swiss initiative in the Central Andes
The Peruvian Andes are among the most vulnerable regions to climate change. There is for example visible evidence of significant ice loss of the glaciated Peruvian Cordilleras, which (still) serve as vital water resources for local communities. Robust projections of future changes in climate variability and related impacts are critical for the development and implementation of adequate adaptation measures. The scarcity of reliable long-term observations, however, makes trend analysis and projections challenging. A Peruvian-Swiss initiative (PACC) aims at improving the scientific basis for the region Cusco/Apurimac (Southern Peru) for subsequent use in adaptation planning.
