Academic interests

My research focuses on advancing the understanding and prediction of hydroclimatic processes, with an emphasis on improving water resource management and climate risk mitigation. Key areas of interest include:

Hydroclimatology: Investigating the primary climate drivers of drought and other extreme hydrological events to better understand and forecast their occurrence.

Land-Atmosphere Interactions: Exploring the feedback mechanisms between the land surface and the atmosphere, and how these interactions influence weather and climate patterns.

Land Data Assimilation: Enhancing land surface models by integrating observations and remote sensing data to improve the initialization of land conditions in weather and climate prediction systems.

Remote Sensing in Hydrology: Applying satellite and ground-based remote sensing techniques to monitor hydrological variables such as soil moisture, evapotranspiration, and snow cover.

Sub-Seasonal to Seasonal (S2S) Prediction: Developing and refining prediction models that improve forecasts on sub-seasonal to seasonal time scales, especially for drought and heatwave events.

Background

2024 - present: Researcher, Department of Geosciences, UiO, Norway

2021-2024 : Postdoc, Geophysical Institute, UiB, Norway

2016-2021 : PhD., Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, India

2014-2016 : Masters, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, India

Research background: I have extensive experience in land-atmosphere interactions, data assimilation, and applying remote sensing techniques in hydrology. My research has primarily focused on enhancing the Norwegian Climate Prediction Model (NorCPM) and Land Surface Models (LSM) by integrating satellite-based data, with the goal of improving the accuracy and reliability of hydrological and climate forecasts.

I have been actively engaged in assessing the impacts of climate change on land surfaces and advancing prediction capabilities on sub-seasonal to seasonal (S2S) timescales.

Additionally, My work has contributed to understanding the depletion of groundwater resources and highlighting the urgent need for sustainable management practices to ensure their long-term availability.
