GREY
AND MAUD
Event description
The rock avalanche, inspected on 20 September 1992,
removed a long section of ridge line. The ridge probably did not fail over the
full height of the slope, and a smaller volume, perhaps 5 Mio m3,
failed. It did , however, remobilize most of the
earlier deposit, and thus had the greater deposit volume. The avalanche
blanketed the Maud Glacier with debris and entered a proglacial lake.
