If you would like to access samples in the ASL, please submit a request to the ASL Sample Analogue Panel (ASAP) via the sample request form: Request the samples!
⚠️Due to a series of technical problems with ESA, the request form is currently unavailable: samples may be requested via msr-asl [@] geo.uio.no or direct contact with one of the curators.
The following top-level priorities apply to allocation requests:
- SRP and MSR Campaign: Needs arising within the Sample Receiving Project or Campaign Science Team(s) for research and development, testing or verification.
- Science Community: Requests from the MSR-relevant science community for research purposes.
- Public relations and outreach: Requests related to communicate MSR to the general public.
Requests for sample allocations will be evaluated on the basis of their scientific relevance in respect to MSR and martian missions goals, feasibility, and applicability to the main objectives of Mars 2020 as defined by the iMOST committee and reviewed by MSRC group. Allocation decisions are managed by the Analogue Sample Allocation Panel (ASAP), comprised of NASA, ESA and UiO members. The requested mass of the samples has to be justified by techniques used and purposes of the proposal.
The requests can be submitted anytime, there are no strict application deadlines.
ASAP decisions shall be communicated within two weeks of sample requests being submitted. The cost of packaging and shipment of samples from the ASL for MSR program activities will be covered by the University of Oslo (the cost of shipment to third parties shall be covered by the third party)
The samples must be returned to UiO once analyses are complete, and borrowing institutions are encouraged to publish their data as part of the Planetary Science Archive under the Mars Sample Return or corresponding mission, as well as to acknowledge the MASL in subsequent publications.
