The CryoDA: Workshop on Data Assimilation for Cryospheric Applications
CryoDA is a workshop where researchers working on different applications of Data Assimilation will discuss the approaches used in their fields to merge observations and models. The aim of the workshop is to write a review paper/primer where the participants discuss about the use of DA methods in the Cryosphere, show some examples and discuss the current challenges and future opportunity of this field.
The CryoDA workshop will be held at University of Oslo, at the university area Campus Blindern during 7-10 April 2025. It is facilitated by the Peder Sather Center and jointly organised by the University of Oslo and University of California, Berkeley.
The program will consist of:
- A session about the Bayesian theoretical framework, where the ground is laid for fruitful discussion and presentations of the participants’ own research.
- A number of participants are invited to share and demonstrate a tutorial with a simple Data Assimilation application. The participants will see how DA theory is applied in various Cryospheric realms (e.g. Snow, Hydrology, Glaciers, Permafrost)
- Discussion: the group is invited to discuss about a selected (but open) topics, challenges and opportunity common to the various applications in an open/group based discussion that will feed directly on the common publication.
- Wrap up. More time is granted for continuing the discussions and the groups are invited to wrap the outcome in a paper draft.
