The VICCO+ seminar is helt by: Lucas M. M. Rossetti, Professor at Federal University of Mato Grosso; FUMG, and has this title/topic:
Basaltic reservoirs of the Paraná–Etendeka LIP: Volcanic facies and CO₂ storage potential
Abstract:
Geological storage of CO₂ is a viable pathway for the for the permanent removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. In Brazil the Paraná-Etendeka large igneous province cover over 1 Mkm2 and represents a promising target for CO₂ storage. Systematic mapping and correlation of volcanic facies in the field and in exploration wells provide critical insights into the areal extent, thickness and carbon storage potential of the basalt deposits. The onshore volcanic sequences also serve as valuable analogues for assessing the potential of related volcanic reservoirs in offshore basins along the South Atlantic margins.
Bio:
Lucas Rossetti is an associated professor at the Federal University of Mato Grosso (FUMG) in Brazil. His research focus on the stratigraphy, petrophysical properties, and temporal evolution of large igneous provinces, including their reservoir properties for hydrocarbons, water, CO2 storage. Lucas obtained his PhD (dual degree) from the University of Aberdeen (UK) and UFRGS (Brazil) in 2018.
About the VICCO+ seminar series
The seminars are open for everyone interested, and especially students are welcome. The talks in VICCO+ seminar series are offered by the The VICCO centre, Dept. of Geosciences, University of Oslo.
The VICCO+ talk seminar series are normally held in the Geology Building, at UiO's campus Blindern, see this map.
