The Rattray Volcanic Province – CO2 storage potential within volcanic-sedimentary sequences of the North Sea

This master's project will be integrated into the newly established VICCO (VISTA Centre for CO2 Storage in Volcanic-Sedimentary Systems) research centre, which aims to enhance understanding of the potential for storing CO2 within mixed volcanic-sedimentary deposits.

The main objective of the project is to assess the potential for permanent CO2 storage in the Rattray Volcanic Member in the North Sea. This member is characterised by fissure-fed extrusive volcanics with subordinate inter-lava clastics. The primary activities will involve performing a seismic volcano-stratigraphic interpretation of the unit, combined with core-log-seismic integration.

Disciplines:
Basin Analysis, Seismic Interpretation, Borehole Interpretation, CO2 Storage.

Methods and Learnings:
Seismic interpretation, wireline log interpretation, core-log-seismic integration, volcanology, CO2 sequestration, scientific analysis, and writing.

The aim is to generate results that are suitable for publication.

Database:
Released seismic reflection data and borehole data.
