This project will investigate the origin and consequences of basalt alteration in the Oslo Rift, in a vein system dominated by fluorite. Where did the fluoride come from, and what were the consequences of exposing basalt to a corrosive hydrothermal fluid.
The work will be part of the VICCO centre at the department, focusing on CO2 sequestration in volcanic rocks. The project will be supervised by Henrik Svensen and others from the VICCO centre.
The project will include both regional and detailed mapping south of Oslo, and detailed petrographic and geochemical work.
